CONTENTdm Multi-Site Server

The Multi-Site Server enables users to query multiple CONTENTdm Servers from a single search interface. Geographically remote organizations can create and maintain their own local collections and at the same time provide users with seamless access to cross collection searching on multiple CONTENTdm servers.

The Multi-Site Server has no effect on search pages that have already been developed for use on local CONTENTdm Servers, enabling organizations to maintain their local identities and still make their collections available for global searching.
How it works
The Multi-Site Server is sold separately from CONTENTdm Digital Collection Management Software. The Multi-Site Server works by gathering collection metadata from multiple CONTENTdm Servers and combining them into a single index. Because information is stored in a single index, searches are completed rapidly. Items are then retrieved from multiple servers and displayed in a single user interface. The items within collections are stored on and retrieved from the remote servers of participating organizations.
Housed in a central location, the Multi-Site Server requires minimal setup and maintenance and is transparent to remote participating organizations. Participating organizations build and maintain local CONTENTdm collections as usual and Multi-Site Server Administrators simply designate which collections will be indexed by the Multi-Site Server. The index refresh rate is easily scripted so that it occurs automatically at a specified time.
To users, the process is seamless. Users conduct their searches through a single, customizable Multi-Site Server interface. In addition, organizations with CONTENTdm Servers can continue to maintain stand-alone collection interfaces.
