NBC affiliate highlights CONTENTdm-powered Utah Digital Newspaper Collections

Salt Lake City, UT—The University of Utah Marriott Library Utah Digital Newspaper Collections was the subject of a recent news story that aired on NBC affiliate KSL-TV.

The collection, containing editions of every newspaper in Utah history except the big dailies, is growing rapidly, with 2,500 pages being scanned a day.

The three-minute story features John Herbert, the Utah Digital Newspapers Program Director, who emphasized that the collection benefits "your average Joes or Josephines."

Since the story aired, Web site statistics increased twenty-fold, according to Kenning Arlitsch, Head of Information Technology at the J. Willard Marriott Library.

"The response has reinforced that historical newspapers are the most successful and widely-used digitization project we have created," said Arlitsch.

The video clip of the story is available from KSL-TV at http://tv.ksl.com/index.php?nid=8&sid=128178.
