Communications curriculum incorporates CONTENTdm newspaper
database documenting history of ethnic and community newspapers
published in the United States
As the impetus toward multicultural and interdisciplinary
teaching builds, teachers and scholars have tried to incorporate these
diverse materials into the curriculum. The University of Washington
collaboration between academic librarians, faculty, software
engineers, and other university departments led to the successful
development of a digital newspaper archive.
The Ethnic-Community Press Collection evolved from the initial need to
support an undergraduate Communications curriculum to the actual
digitizing and presenting of the newspaper images in a CONTENTdm
Multimedia Software database.
