IMLS grant received by Seattle's Museum of History and Industry and
numerous partnering organizations to create online databases
The Institute of Museum and Library Services grant will be used to digitize and make
available via the Internet 12,000 historic images from MOHAI's
collection, the University of Washington Libraries and nearly a dozen
other local groups affiliated with the Association of King County
Heritage Organizations (AKCHO). Digital asset management software
developed at the UW called CONTENTdm will be used for the project.
The unique component of this project is the creation of independent
online photo databases for each participating group, combined with the
ability of CONTENTdm to create a "megadatabase" website. This
megadatabase website will allow users to simultaneously search and
view historic images and read detailed information about, for example,
"railroad locomotives" in the collections of more than a dozen
heritage groups and libraries in King County."
