DiMeMa, Inc. offers more tools for collection building with its latest version of CONTENTdm
SEATTLE, Washington, March 24, 2005 --- DiMeMa Inc., creator of the leading digital collection management software, today announced the upcoming launch of the newest version of CONTENTdm. Available in June, CONTENTdm 4 adds a host of new features to make digital collection development, management, and delivery easier and more efficient.
Working in close collaboration with the CONTENTdm user community, DiMeMa continues to add features that specifically address the needs of the hundreds of organizations worldwide that are using CONTENTdm to manage millions of digital items.
"DiMeMa works closely with the large and active CONTENTdm user community to ensure that we provide the tools they need to create and manage digital collections," said Greg Zick, President of DiMeMa, Inc. "Digitization of primary source materials is an exciting opportunity for organizations to add value to their collections and support the broader global effort of providing access to unique holdings. Our goal is to offer the most efficient and feature-rich software to assist with their efforts."
The new features will help organizations maximize staff efficiency and workflow, provide a range of end-user options, and increase flexibility in managing collections. "These are wonderful enhancements to the software. We appreciate DiMeMa hearing our needs and providing a solution," said Pat Vince, Digital Projects Manager at LOUIS: The Louisiana Library Network which has used CONTENTdm for two years developing the LOUISiana Digital Library - Louisiana's doorway to the unique cultural and historical resources of Louisiana's libraries, archives, museums, and other cultural institutions. "Our collections now include a wide array of items such as maps, historical photographs, teaching materials, art, oral histories, and videos. We are very satisfied with CONTENTdm and are looking forward to the new release in June."
CONTENTdm 4 contains enhancements to make digital collection management easier, whether working with documents, books, photographs, or slides; or creating a campus-wide institutional repository.
Add multiple documents more efficiently
Save time and resources using the new compound object import wizard in the CONTENTdm Acquisition Station. Compound objects, such as documents, books, newspapers, diaries, yearbooks, and postcards, can now be created and imported in batches. Queue multiple compound objects and process them during off-hours so workstations won't be busy when you have other work to do.
Edit metadata more quickly and accurately
Edit and update metadata rapidly using new spell check and find and replace tools in the CONTENTdm Acquisition Station. Users can spell check metadata before adding items to collections, reducing the need for later editing. Find and replace allows users to rapidly update inaccurate metadata across multiple items.
Have more control over collection security
New security options give users a variety of choices to protect copyrighted or other restricted materials. Restrict access to collections or items by user name or IP address, or limit access to images while allowing users to search and read all metadata records.
Know more about how visitors use collections
Manage collections more effectively by analyzing usage through extended report tools. Determine the number of items viewed by each user; the frequency with which items were viewed; and the date and time items were viewed within a specified date range. Easily export report data to Microsoft® Excel or Microsoft Access for additional analysis and charting.
Have more control over collection administration
More flexible administrative rights support a variety of workflows and organizational structures. Assign administrative rights to individual users by collection and choose which staff has permission to add, edit, and delete collections and items. This additional flexibility means administrators can delegate collection-related tasks to the collection expert and assign rights based on the job responsibilities of staff members.
Offer end users more options when searching and viewing collections
Several new features improve searching efficiency and let end users specify how they view search results. A new viewer displays search results in a hierarchical manner and allows users to select the sort order so they may view results in logical groupings. New preference options enable the users to specify how they want to view results, giving them more control over how they access collection items.
CONTENTdm users with a current Annual Maintenance Agreement will automatically receive CONTENTdm 4 in June.
