CONTENTdm Software Suite Version 3.4 supports OAI and offers rich enhancements for users

PHILADELPHIA, PA, January 24, 2003--- DiMeMa Inc. is pleased to announce the latest version of the CONTENTdm Software Suite for digital collection development and management. Currently supporting thousands of special collection media assets, the CONTENTdm Software Suite adds Open Archives Initiative support and collection management and searching enhancements in its 3.4 version. Available in early February, CONTENTdm Version 3.4 is a powerful and affordable tool for a wide spectrum of digital collection users.

"We are committed to supporting the latest standards and listening to our customers," said Greg Zick, President of DiMeMa Inc. "Version 3.4 demonstrates this with the inclusion of OAI support and a variety of feature enhancements, many which have been suggested by our users. Our goal is for CONTENTdm to support a wide range of digital collection users. It is easy and affordable for an organization starting with a single collection of photographs yet robust enough to support a regional consortium sharing hundreds of thousands of media items across servers. CONTENTdm 3.4 continues to provide a consistent platform that supports growing and evolving collection plans."

About CONTENTdm Version 3.4*

OAI (Open Archives Initiative) support: Support for the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting Version 2.0 (OAI-PMH v2), an emerging standard for metadata harvesting across the network, allows a CONTENTdm Server to function as an OAI repository. CONTENTdm users can now choose to make their collections' metadata available for OAI harvesting.

Query Builder enhancements: The powerful Query Builder Tool now provides the option to pass specified metadata fields forward to a Web form for fulfillment. This ensures the correct information is transferred to Web forms or e-commerce packages for transaction processing.

Additionally, administrators can now use the QBT to choose titles only for search result displays. Displaying titles only will be useful for document collections where thumbnails are not relevant and will also provide a more efficient way to view search results. The default option of displaying both thumbnails and titles is still available.

Viewer enhancements: Compound objects (postcards, documents, and monographs) may now be designated to display as complete items. When an item that is part of a compound object is returned from a search and opened, the compound object viewer will display the complete object with the target page selected. Items that are part of a compound object will also be suppressed when browsing collections, so only complete documents appear.

Additionally, users may now clear or select all checkboxes when working with collections in the Search Client. An automatic item count has been added in the administration tool so administrators can easily access collection size information.

Integrated CONTENTdm PowerPoint Plug-in: This tool makes creating Microsoft? PowerPoint? presentations with items from CONTENTdm collections fast and easy. The Plug-in imports items saved in CONTENTdm My Favorites files allowing users to present collection items in classrooms or other locations without access to high speed networking.

Full Resolution enhancements: Includes the ability to add, delete, and reset volume names manually as well as manually edit the full resolution information for an item.

Controlled Vocabulary enhancements: Support is now provided for search synonyms in the Search Client. Additionally, users can add vocabulary terms in batch mode which will facilitate more efficient collection maintenance.

Streaming media server support: Supports the mapping of streamed files to streaming media servers, providing efficient delivery of streamed files while maintaining database management within CONTENTdm.

Thumbnail Manager: This new tool gives users the ability to assign a default thumbnail to an item based on its file extension. Users can use their own custom images or choose from a set of default thumbnails included in the application.

ASCII import of null items: Allows the import of text only in batch mode when there is no associated data file. This supports efficient initial collection development and gives users the ability to create records that keep track of digital items without associated viewable objects.

*CONTENTdm users with a current Annual Maintenance Agreement will automatically receive Version 3.4 in February.
