DiMeMa, Inc. announces the CONTENTdm Multi-Site Server and Version 3.4 of the CONTENTdm Software Suite
A new product offering, the CONTENTdm Multi-Site Server, will be available in early 2003. The
CONTENTdm Multi-Site Server provides access to multiple CONTENTdm servers through a single user
interface. The Multi-Site Server gathers the collection indexes from multiple CONTENTdm Servers and
rapidly returns combined search results from each of the remote servers. The Multi-Site Server is
currently in use as part of the Mountain West Digital Library, a collaborative effort linking 52 CONTENTdm
collections and more than 79,000 items at the University of Utah, Utah State University, Brigham Young
University, and Southern Utah University. The Mountain West Digital Library may be viewed at
www.mwdl.org.
CONTENTdm Version 3.4 adds numerous user enhancements, including Open Archives Initiative (OAI)
support, to an already powerful tool for building, managing, and accessing digital collections. With
Version 3.4, collection owners can choose to allow an OAI repository to harvest their collections.
Other improvements include:
- Query Builder Tool enhancements that provide the option to pass specified information, such as item
number or title, to forms. This data can be transferred to an e-commerce package for transaction
processing.
- Compound Object display enhancements, including suppression of individual pages in browse results,
to facilitate more efficient browsing.
- The option to display titles only in customized search results. This is useful for document collections
where titles are often more meaningful than thumbnail images.
Complete product details and features will be announced at the CONTENTdm Product Forum on January
27th at the American Libraries Association Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia.
CONTENTdm users with a current Annual Maintenance Agreement will automatically receive Version 3.4.
Both products, the Multi-Site Server and CONTENTdm Version 3.4 will be available in February.
