Using Manual Upload
Use manual upload when security or network constraints prohibit the use of CONTENTdm's standard automated upload process. Files can be uploaded using CD-ROM or secure FTP.
Version 3.6 users who create compound objects using the Batch Add wizard and who require manual upload should see Manually Uploading Compound Objects.
To manually upload items:
Create an upload directory on your computer or local area network. The files you upload will be stored temporarily in the upload directory until you are ready to copy and transfer the files to the Server.
In your Acquisition Station project, enter the path and name of the upload directory created in Step 1.
For new projects: In the New Project wizard, select Upload to Shared Drive and browse to or enter the path and name of the directory created in Step 1 into the text field.
For existing projects: Click the Edit menu in the Acquisition Station. Select Options. Click the Upload tab and browse to or enter the path and name of the directory created in Step 1 into the appropriate text field.
Import items and metadata into your project as usual. Click Upload.
All the files will be copied to the Upload directory you specified in Step 2.
When you are ready, use either a CD-ROM or secure FTP to transfer the contents of the manual upload directory to the collection /root-directory/import directory on the Server.
Manually Uploading Compound Objects
This information applies only to Version 3.6 users who create Compound Objects using the Batch Add wizard and require manual upload.
Each Compound Object is added to your manual upload directory in its own folder. Folders have unique names so multiple users can upload objects to the same directory and easily locate their work to complete the manual upload using CD-ROM or secure FTP.
To manually upload compound objects:
Create an upload directory on your computer or local area network. Files you upload will be stored temporarily in the upload directory until you are ready to copy and transfer the files to the Server.
Click Batch Add to begin creating a compound object using the Batch Add wizard.
Click Upload from the Upload dialog box. A status screen displays the upload progress and the Manual Upload dialog opens when this portion of the upload is complete.
Highlight and copy the instructions for continuing the manual upload. You will need to refer to the URL noted in the instructions after the files have been transferred manually to the Server. Click OK to close the Manual Upload dialog.

You may continue to create other Compound Objects using Batch Add, or, if you have finished, locate the manual upload directory on your computer or local area network.
Within the manual upload directory, locate the cdoc directory. The cdoc directory contains your Compound Objects and keeps them separate from any unrelated items you or other users may have uploaded previously. The folder of each Compound Object is labeled with a unique time and date stamp as well as the machine name of your computer.

Copy the files from the manual upload directory to CD-ROM (or use secure FTP) to transfer the files to the Server.
On the Server, copy the files to the identical cdoc directory and folder of the import directory of the appropriate collection. (An identical directory and folder were automatically created by CONTENTdm in Step 4.) Note: Server Administrator permissions are required to copy the files from CD-ROM to the Server.

After the files have been copied to the Server, retrieve the instructions you saved in Step 5 for completing manual upload. Open your Web browser to the specified URL.
From this page you can preview, delete, or submit Compound Objects to the pending queue for Collection Administration approval as usual.
