Generating Item Thumbnails

Thumbnail images are used to display search results lists to users and to display items within projects.

When items are added to Acquisition Station Projects, CONTENTdm generates thumbnail-sized representations of the items. For image files, such as JPEGs, the Acquisition Station uses a scaled down version of the image itself. For other file types—specifically, video, audio, PDFs, and URLs—the Acquisition Station generates standardized thumbnail icons to represent each file type.

Thumbnails images will always be generated and cannot be turned off within the Acquisition Station. However, when you are ready to create predefined queries into a collection you may specify that the search results display only titles without thumbnail images. To learn more about creating queries, see the Custom Queries and Results Tutorial.

Within an Acquisition Station Project, you may create custom thumbnails for individual items, or, use the Thumbnail Manager to edit CONTENTdm's standard thumbnail icons and associated file types and add your own standardized thumbnail icons.
