Importing Text as Metadata

Text can be imported into Acquisition Station projects in several ways:

  • Before adding items to a project, use the Template Creator to specify a directory from which to import text, see Using the Template Creator.
  • During the batch add process, select Tab-delimited import to add tab-delimited text for multiple items, see Importing Data from Another Database. Users of Version 3.6 and greater can import compound object images and text during the batch add process.
  • After items have been added to a project or collection you can import text files one at a time into a specified metadata field following the steps below.

Tip: Use the Import Text operation when you need to add text transcripts to items that have already been added to your collection. Search the collection from your Acquisition Station project, retrieve the items to the project by saving them individually or clicking Grab Set for multiple items, then add text to one item at a time by following the steps below.

  1. Open an item in your project by double-clicking the item thumbnail image. The Media Editor opens.

  2. From the Tools menu select Import Text File.

  3. Click the Browse button to locate the text file.

  4. Highlight the text file and click Open.

  5. From the dropdown list in the Import Text dialog box, select the metadata field where the text should be inserted.

  6. import text

  7. To preserve existing line breaks within your text, check the box next to Insert HTML tags.

  8. Click OK.
