Troubleshooting Guide: Tab-delimited File Import
What type of error did you receive?
Examine the two records displayed in dialog box.
Find filename field by using the scrollbar to center the screen on the filename field. (You may need to expand the cell width of the filename field by dragging the dividing line between the filename field column and the column after the filename field.)
Examine the file names and check the file store to verify that the two files exist. If one of the files does not exist in the store, either copy the file to the store or delete the record from the tab-delimited file. If the filename does not line up with the correct record this may be because the files were incorrectly mapped or an illegal character return is hidden in the data.
If the fields are incorrectly mapped, the first record in the error dialog is usually blank and the second record displays the filename in a field other that the filename field. To correct the problem restart the Batch Add Wizard being careful to line up the tab-delimited field containing the file names with the Object File Name.
If an illegal character return occurred in the data , the rightmost numbers in the error dialog are record numbers. To correct this problem open your data using your preferred spreadsheet program. Use the numbers in the error dialog to find the location of the error by counting the corresponding number of rows. Once you find the location, examine your data. You will find the problem point by locating the bad filename. To correct the error cut and paste the data into the appropriate column.
This problem usually occurs when extra carriage returns appear in the data. To correct this problem open your data using your preferred spreadsheet program. Use the numbers in the error dialog to find the location of the error by counting the corresponding number of rows. Once you find the location
examine your data. The problem lies with a field that displays too many or too few columns. To correct the error, cut and paste the data into the appropriate column.
